10 Most Stolen Cars in America

The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) has published statistics about highest losses that occur as a result of car theft. Although frequency of theft insurance claims has been declining, the problem is still persistent. The following is the list of cars that are frequently stolen.
1.  Cadillac Escalade

According to the IIHS, Cadillac Escalade experienced the highest frequency of claims due to theft between 2007 and 2009. At a frequency of 10.8 claims per 1,000 insured vehicles, Cadillac takes the top spot for most stolen cars in America.
2. Ford F-250 Crew 4WD (2008-09)

At 9.7 theft claims, Ford F-250 crew pickup is the second most demanded car by thieves resulting in considerable loss. The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) reported that thieves are on a lookout for “chrome, horsepower, and HEMIs”, which means that Ford F-250 crew pickup trucks appeal.
3. Infiniti G37 2- Door (2008-09)

Infiniti G37 has come to the third spot. With a frequency of 7.1 claims per 1,000, theft of this car resulted in about $10,000 average payment per claim, one of the highest in the list.
4.  Dodge Charger HEMI

With 7.1 claims per 1,000, the Dodge Charger is one of the top four most stolen cars. Together with  Cadillac Escalade, Ford F-250, and Infiniti G37, Dodge Charger has thefts rates that are 3 to 5 times as high as the average rates of theft of other vehicles, according to HLDI.
5.  Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Though ranked fifth in the statistics, theft claims averaged only 1.7 per 1,000. Despite its relatively low theft rate, it incurred the highest insurance pay out per claim of $51,229.
6. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew
The Silverado made the list because of its high theft rate. Although the insurance payout was among the lowest, theft claims averaged 8 out of 1,000, almost as high as Cadillac.
